Grades 4-8 Admissions Process

Sterne School is considering applicants for 2018-2019 school year enrollment. The school is currently full for the 2017-2018 school year. The Admissions Committee is considering applicants for the 2017-2018 school year’s wait pool.

ADMISSIONS PROCESS:

At any point in the Admissions process, parents and guardians are welcome to RSVP to attend an Open House.

STEP ONE: SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT
The first step is to email our Director of Admission Angela Gengras at agengras@sterneschool.org to schedule an initial appointment.

STEP TWO: SUBMIT APPLICATION AND SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS
After the initial parent/guardian appointment with Admissions occurs, then submit an application with any applicable supporting documents to Sterne School Admissions.

You may scan and email items to admissions@sterneschool.org or mail them to our Kearny Street address.

Applicants are required to submit the application prior to the Student Visit Day.

The first round deadline to submit the application is Wednesday, January 31, 2018 or prior to the Student Visit Day, whichever occurs first.

The Admissions Committee will consider applicants that apply after the January 31, 2018 deadline, on a space available basis after March 26, 2018.

STEP THREE: APPLICANT VISITS THE SCHOOL

STEP FOUR: 4th-8th GRADE COMMON EVALUATION FORM
The Parent/Guardian will complete the top portion and provide the 4th-8th Common Evaluation Form to a Teacher or Learning Specialist at the student's current school. Request that the Teacher or Learning Specialist at the current school submit the completed Common Evaluation Form directly to Sterne School by emailing it to admissions@sterneschool.org

Deadline for Sterne to receive the required 4th-8th Common Evaluation Form: Wednesday, January 31, 2018

Applicants who submit the 4th-8th Common Evaluation Form after the deadline will be considered on a space available basis after March 26, 2018.

STEP FIVE: TRANSCRIPTS
Complete and provide Sterne School's transcript request form to the student's current school. Request that the current school submit the transcripts directly to Sterne School by emailing them to admissions@sterneschool.org

Deadline for Sterne to receive transcripts from current school: Wednesday, January 31, 2018.

Applicants who submit transcripts after the deadline will be considered on a space available basis after March 26, 2018.

ATTEND AN OPEN HOUSE
At any point in the Admissions process, parents and guardians are welcome to RSVP to attend an Open House.

ADMISSIONS DECISIONS

5th-8th Admissions decision notifications for 2018-2019 school year enrollment will be emailed on March 15, 2018 after 12 p.m.

After the March 2018 first round decision notification dates, Sterne School Admissions’ decisions for fall 2018 will be made on a rolling, space available basis. Rolling decisions are provided to each family after the Student Visit Day and after the Admissions Committee has reviewed all required supporting materials.

Regarding enrollment for the current 2017-2018 school year, first round decisions were sent last school year in March 2017. We are full for the 2017-2018 school year, but applicants are welcome to apply to join the 2017-2018 wait pool on a rolling basis. The Admissions Committee provides rolling decisions (denials or invitations to join the wait pool) for the 2017-2018 wait pool after the Student Visit Day and after the Admissions Committee has reviewed all required supporting materials.

The Parent/Guardian will complete the top portions and provide the Sterne High School Principal/School Counselor, English, and Math Recommendation Forms to the current Principal/School Counselor, English teacher, and Math teacher. Request that the current school submit the three Sterne High School Recommendation Forms directly to Sterne School by emailing them to admissions@sterneschool.org

If the High School applicant previously has asked or will ask his/her current faculty to complete the common Bay Area Independent High Schools (BAIHS) Recommendation Forms, then Sterne School is happy to accept copies of the BAIHS Recommendation Forms from the Principal/School Counselor, English Teacher, and Math Teacher. The current school may email these forms directly to admissions@sterneschool.org

Deadline for Sterne to receive the three high school recommendations forms: Wednesday, January 31, 2018

Applicants who submit recommendations after the deadline will be considered on a space available basis after March 26, 2018.

HIGH SCHOOL ESSAY

Sterne High School applicants have the option of sharing more about themselves by answering an essay prompt. Please choose from one of the below prompts. Please limit essays to 500 words or less.

1. Write about an important memory and explain its significance to you.

2. If you could go back and do something over again, what would it be and why?
