Homework and Assessment

We believe that the purpose of homework is to review and solidify concepts learned in the classroom and to practice study techniques for committing vocabulary and basic facts to memory.
Students are assigned homework they can do independently and their success is monitored closely by classroom teachers and the homeroom teacher. We encourage students to create regular homework habits as part of their organized approach to learning.

Weekly tests are the norm in most classes so that students can master small amounts of material before moving on. We help our students recognize their outstanding work and regularly create displays highlighting their creativity and achievements. Student progress is noted on the weekly assignment sheet and teachers communicate with parents by e-mail as well. Formal progress reporting is done with letter grades and narrative reports at the end of each quarter. At the end of each quarter, honor roll and other notable accomplishments are posted for the student body and parents to view.

Students are always included in conferences and these typically happen to review progress after the first and third quarters, or at any time teachers or parents feel a conversation would support student success.
