Three middle school and five high school team handball players were selected to the California Youth Cup All Star games that will be played at Bret Harte MS in San Jose on Sunday, November 24th.
From the middle school, Ayan (left back/pivot) earned 1st Team All-Tournament honors. Ayan was the team's leading scorer this year and exploded early in the California Cup's 3rd Place game, helping the Dolphins earn a 14-9 win and 3rd Place.
Zeke (pivot) and Colin (right back) were also named to the All Star game with impressive performances through the 4 games played on Sunday, November 17. This was Zeke's 3rd season playing for the Dolphins, and rookie years for both Colin and Ayan.
In the high school, Michael D (center/left back) was named to the 1st string of the All-Tournament team despite limited playing time because of injuries (shoulder/knee). Niko (left wing) earned a spot in the All Star Game and was the 2nd highest voted of all players not named to the 1st string team. Miles (pivot), Thomas (center/left wing/goalie), and Enzio (Goalie/right back/center) all also earned All Star Game invitations.
The five high school All Stars led the Dolphins to 2nd place finishes in both the regular season and tournament. Thomas, who has played for Sterne all 4 years, will graduate having won the California Youth Cup twice and finishing 2nd in the other year it was held. Thomas, along with Earl are the two most decorated players in the league's brief history. Miles, who was part of the Dolphins 2017 championship team, didn't play last season, but was a force all season on the circle. Enzio, a freshman, suffered in the voting because of splitting time in so many positions. He received votes for his work in all 3 of his positions, demonstrating the value he gave all season.
