In Sterne's Upper School, we approach learning differently. At the core is the recognition that students are most successful when they are engaged, active participants in the learning process. A Sterne education provides students with a comprehensive and challenging college preparatory curriculum, access to state-of-the-art technology, and instruction that’s designed and led by a cohort of highly trained teachers who know our students by starting with their strengths.
We’re a small but mighty school by design. In addition to providing students with a low student to teacher ratio (up to 10-15 students per class) and a tailored learning experience that includes Honors classes and an emphasis on executive function skill-building, students are encouraged to take full advantage of our many co-curricular options: performing, digital and fine arts, exploratory electives such as Psychology, Sociology, Gender Studies, and Anatomy, student-led clubs and affinity groups; competitive athletics (Team Handball, Volleyball, Basketball) and intramural sports (Running, Dodgeball, Table Tennis, Flag Football).
A Sterne education isn’t contained within the classroom walls. Sterne students explore their passions, future college majors, and career interests by getting out into the world by participating in national and international experiential trips, summer language immersion programs, service learning opportunities, and our unique 12th-grade Passages internship, college course, and job program.
